A Hamilton police officer has been found not guilty of sexually assaulting a younger colleague more than three years ago.
Const. Jeffrey Turnbull walked out of a Burlington courtroom Friday afternoon after Justice Jennifer Campitelli delivered her verdict and reasons more than 70 days after final submissions had wrapped in late July.
Turnbull had been accused of sexually assaulting a colleague in the basement of his Ancaster home in March 2022. The sexual assault charge was announced in June 2023 following a probe by the Special Investigations Unit (SIU).
Turnbull had pleaded not guilty and has remained suspended without pay since the charge was laid. His trial had begun in January and had sat sporadically since.
