The minister of public safety has given Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) 30 days to provide a report on the information technology (IT) system outage that held up border traffic and led to truckers being stranded for an extended period.
According to a spokesperson, Minister Gary Anandasangaree said he wants a report outlining what caused the outage and a plan to prevent another one in the future. The spokesperson said Friday that Anandasangaree was not available for an interview with CBC.
Some truck drivers entering Ontario weren't able to proceed for as long as 36 hours this week after the outage affected CBSA operations. It began Sunday and lasted into Tuesday, with the resulting backlog snarling commercial traffic for days.
"This is just not good from a human factor, from an econ
