AUSTIN, Texas — Austin ISD on Friday announced plans to potentially close 13 schools as part of a consolidation effort driven by declining enrollment and budget constraints . District officials said the proposal would rezone students to other campuses in an effort to better allocate resources and reduce costs.
Parents have raised concerns about a lack of communication during the district's decision-making process, which AISD leaders acknowledged has been challenging.
The district says its proposed consolidation plan is not tied to Texas Education Agency (TEA) ratings, which were released in August for the 2024-25 school year. The district as a whole received a "C" rating, earning a 79 out of 100.
Several Austin ISD middle schools received failing scores, including Dobie, Burnet a
