WAYNESBORO, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - The Burke County Public School System announced Elizabeth Hunter as its Teacher of the Year during halftime of last week’s Burke County Bears vs. Glenn Hills Spartans football game.

Hunter has dedicated her career to serving students at Waynesboro Primary School, where she currently teaches second grade and serves as lead special education teacher.

Bereaved mom Cathy Semeria found unexpected comfort in community. She connected with other grieving mothers. They talked, prayed, and shared meals.

A Burke County native and valedictorian of the Class of 2011, she went on to earn her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Augusta University before pursuing her calling in education.
