FAYETTE COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) - Gov. Patrick Morrisey announced Friday that West Virginia reached an agreement with the National Park Service to keep its two national parks fully operational during the federal government shutdown.

In what is called a “donation agreement,” the state will pay nearly $100,000 to keep New River Gorge National Park and Harpers Ferry National Park open for 14 days.

According to the Governor’s Office, it will cost $31, 477.60 to keep New River Gorge open, and it will cost $66,508.96 to keep Harpers Ferry open - bringing the 14-day total to $97,986.56. That total amounts to about $7,000 per day.

The money will come from the civil contingency fund, according to the Governor’s Office.
