AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - A deputy will be released from the hospital Friday evening, a day after he was wounded in a shoot-out with a suspect.

Fellow deputies will be meeting Deputy Victor Rodriguez as he’s released, according to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

Typically in cases like this, deputies and other first responders form a procession to accompany the injured officer home.

Meanwhile, a state law enforcement organization is coming together to support the deputy who was shot early Thursday off Washington Road .

Authorities say 20-year-old Dalyn Elder shot Rodriguez as he responded to an armed robbery near Interstate 20 and Washington Road.

The Police Benevolent Association of Georgia is raising money to help support Rodriguez and his family.
