BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) - October is breast cancer awareness month and the Binghamton Fire Department is giving cancer the boot.
On October 3rd, the Fire Department held their Annual Give Cancer the Boot event from 8am to 5:30pm at the intersection of Front Street and Clinton Street.
Firefighters stood in the streets holding boots for drivers on the roadway to stop by and drop some dollars in to donate money for breast cancer research.
Binghamton Firefighter Chris Mallery says while the event has been held annually for about ten years, this was the first time the funds are being donated to the Baldwin Fund, a Syracuse-based breast cancer research fund.
Firefighter Chris Mallery says, "Everybody knows somebody that has been affected by or has cancer. A friend, a family member, mayb
