GRAND FORKS — A young Grand Forks girl has spent 107 days in a Twin Cities hospital after developing a rare infection.
Ten-year-old Everly Peterson has her spunk back, but she still does not know when she will be able to return home.
“Hi,” Everly said in a message to her friends at Discovery Elementary. Instead of starting her fourth-grade year with math and reading, Everly is learning how to walk and sit up again.
“It’s a good excuse to get pushed around in a wheelchair,” she joked.
Everly was born with MMIHS (Megacystis-Microcolon-Intestinal Hypoperistalsis Syndrome), a rare disorder that affects the muscles of the bladder and intestines. It impacts one in 240 million people. She is hooked up to a calorie bag 17 hours a day.
