OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - As the government shutdown continues, some Omaha families are facing growing uncertainty about how they’ll make ends meet. Heartland Hope Mission is stepping in to make sure no one goes hungry.
The nonprofit operates food pantries in both South and West Omaha.
Leaders say they are already seeing the effects of the shutdown, with families who have never needed assistance before now turning to the pantry for help.
“We know a lot of families live paycheck to paycheck, so we want to make sure they know this resource is available to them,” said Chelsea Salifou, CEO of Heartland Hope Mission. “Because many of them have never had to ask for help before, they may not know what other assistance is out there in the community.”
Each family receives about a week’s worth of f
