OMAHA, Neb. —
People are starting to feel the impacts of the federal government shutdown, so local organizations are stepping in to fill gaps for families.
One nonprofit is trying to raise awareness about its food pantry.
The Heartland Hope Mission has two food pantries in South and West Omaha.
CEO of the nonprofit, Chelsea Soulifou, said they're anticipating more families amidst the shutdown.
"We anticipate seeing people start to come in once they miss that first paycheck," Soulifou said.
From courts to parks:
She said they're encouraging people to shop at their free food pantries and to not be shy.
"Come in and get the help they need," Soulifou said. "Not to be embarrassed about it, that's why we're here."
With volunteers making the mission possible, one can at a time.
