A Tasmanian woman has drowned after the raft she was travelling in flipped on the fifth day of a planned 10-day rafting adventure in the Franklin-Gordon Wild Rivers National Park.

The 49-year-old struck trouble near the Livingston Rivulet and the Coruscades rapid on Thursday, deep in Tasmania's World Heritage Wilderness Area.

Members of the rafting party performed CPR at the scene, but she was unable to be revived, police said.

The other members of the 11-person rafting group were uninjured, including the woman's husband, and have since been winched out.

Tasmania Police Marine and Rescue Western Division Acting Inspector Russell Judges said the retrieval was a difficult operation due to the remote and rugged location.
