Australia has overcome a promising start from South Africa to win 64-53 in the first netball Test in Bendigo.
The Diamonds were tested by the Proteas in the opening quarter, with scores level 14-14 at the first break.
The world champions then lifted a gear in the second quarter to lead 34-26 at half-time, before closing out the match in the final two terms, despite a spirited display from the visitors.
Sophie Garbin led the scoring for the Diamonds, shooting 34 goals from 38 attempts.
Teammate Kiera Austin added 16 from 19 attempts on goal.
Proteas star Elmeré van der Berg managed 37 goals from 42 attempts.
The three-Test series now moves to Wollongong on Wednesday, before concluding in Adelaide on October 12. Loading
