Gitanjali J. Angmo, wife of renowned Ladakhi climate activist and education reformist Sonam Wangchuk, has filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court seeking a directive to the Centre to present the alleged accused in the court, i.e Habeas Corpus. She also demanded his immediate release from detention under the National Security Act (NSA), 1980.
Wangchuk, a leading voice for Ladakh’s statehood and environmental rights, was among 50 people detained after protests in Leh turned violent on 24 September, leaving four dead.
In her plea, Angmo described his arrest as unlawful and politically motivated, calling it a “witch-hunt” against his activism. The case has drawn national attention, raising serious questions about civil liberties, dissent, and the misuse of preventive detention laws.
