Most Americans support extending the Affordable Care Act subsidies that are at the center of the federal funding dispute that shut down the government this week, according to a new poll. About three quarters of the public (78%) said they’d like Congress to extend the credits for people with low and moderate incomes, according to a new KFF Health Tracking Poll released Friday .
The survey, conducted Sept. 23 through Sept. 29, found 59% of Republicans and 57% of “Make America Great Again” supporters are in favor of the tax credit extension, along with 82% of independents and 92% of Democrats.
Democrats have made the expiring subsidies the centerpiece of their argument for not supporting Republicans’ bills to fund the government.
