NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Norfolk Police and Virginia State Police visited Norview High School on Friday to warn students about the dangers of drunk and distracted driving.

The event featured a driving simulator, “drunk goggles” and other activities designed to show how quickly distractions like loud music or checking a GPS can become dangerous.

“It’s very difficult because students sometimes think that’s not very important,” said Officer Tony Lee of the Norfolk Police Department. “They’re able to do a lot of fun things on their phones, so holding their attention spans at times, … that’s why we have interactive activities for them.”

Lee emphasized that the stakes are life or death.
