MAYODAN, N.C. — Emotions ran high Friday night at McMichael High School’s football game as players, coaches and fans rallied around a teammate recovering in the hospital after a car crash earlier in the week .

Senior center Camen Mizelle, who was seriously injured in a head-on crash Wednesday, couldn’t be on the field. But his presence was felt throughout MacField Stadium during the team’s rivalry matchup against Morehead.

Camen’s No. 54 was painted on the field, and his jersey was carried to the coin toss by fellow captains. Before kickoff, the team knelt around the blue number 54 for a moment of prayer.
