SALINE COUNTY, Ill. (KFVS) - New affordable housing for low-income families in Harrisburg is now ready for move-in day.
The new Timber Trails community consists of 37 two-bedroom homes and 13 three-bedroom duplexes.
Harrisburg mayor, John McPeek, says there aren’t many options for affordable housing within the city.
McPeek says rent at Timber Trails is affordable and the community gives families the space they need.
In fact, McPeek says, several residents are moving to his town because of this development.
“A lot of people moving in here are not even from Harrisburg. They’re moving into Harrisburg. That’s great for our community. That means more shopping and more tax dollars for us. It’s a great thing.”, says McPeek.
All 53 units have already been rented and there is a waitlist.
