HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Another civil lawsuit is on the horizon stemming from a fatal shooting at the state Capitol in 2019.

This one targets the state and Attorney General Anne Lopez.

This comes less than a year from an already expensive verdict for the officer-involved fatal shooting case that cost the state $2.27 million .

Lawyers Myles Breiner and Terry Revere, who recently secured that judgment, are now planning to sue Attorney General Lopez for defamation.

Breiner and Revere represented the family of Delmar Espejo .

Espejo was an unarmed, homeless man with a disability who was shot in the back by deputy sheriff Gregory Bergman, who caught Espejo with an open bottle of alcohol on Capitol grounds in the overnight hours.
