MISSION VIEJO — The Long Beach Poly football team hung tough early but could not stop Mission Viejo’s passing attack in a 56-7 road loss in a nonleague rivalry game Friday.
Senior quarterback Deuce Jefferson’s 5-yard touchdown run tied the game at 7 with 8:38 left in the second quarter.
Jefferson led Poly with 59 rushing yards and one touchdown on eight carries in the first half.
“We were in the ball game,” Long Beach Poly coach Justin Utupo said after the game. “We were playing football. We talked about starting fast. The defense got off the field on the opening drive and then offense was able to put some points on the board early on.”
However, the Jackrabbits allowed 49 straight points in the final 29 minutes of the game and dropped to 3-3 overall.
