The Portland Winterhawks struggle badly on offense on the road, yet almost pull out a late miracle. But they fall short, and the expansion Penticton Vees record their first Western Hockey League win at home.

It was a score that flattered Portland by a lot. Their shot total was at 13 with less than half of the 3rd period left. But, helped by man advantages, they scored twice to get within one with a minute left. But they didn’t play well, and an overtime game would have been one of the great steals.

So the Winterhawks have lost three of four, and haven’t led at any point during the game (their win was in overtime). They go two-and-a-half hours north to Kamloops on Saturday.
