A previously healthy father who believed he was battling a "nasty cold" was plunged into a 16-day coma and nearly lost his life after contracting flu.

Aaron Clark, 42, went from recuperating in bed to being rushed to intensive care with multi-organ failure within just four days.

The garage proprietor spent over a fortnight in an induced coma at Kings Mill Hospital in Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, and came perilously close to death.

Aaron, who remained unvaccinated, required both a ventilator to assist his breathing and dialysis treatment as his kidneys had ceased functioning properly.

The father-of-three, who has no pre-existing health conditions, has now pledged to receive his first ever flu vaccination and is encouraging others to follow suit.
