Campers on Moreton Island have been evacuated and nearby residents told to prepare to leave as a large out-of-control bushfire burns in the island's north.
The fire broke out in dense national park land around the Bush Camping Track.
The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) says those who were in its immediate path have been taken to a safe spot on the island, which is off the south-east Queensland coast.
Fixed-wing water bombers and helicopters are being used to try and control the blaze in rough terrain, and aerial images show Queensland Fire Service (QFS) ground crews gathering along nearby beaches.
There are currently no homes under threat, however a Watch and Act warning has been issued for the northern half of the island, which includes the townships of Cowan Cowan and Bu
