Jihadist networks are exploiting anger at the war in Gaza to radicalise growing numbers of disaffected individuals through social media, intelligence officers have warned.

The deadly antisemitic attack at a synagogue in Manchester on Thursday follows a marked uptick in support for Isis and other extremist groups over the last year, according to two security insiders.

A worrying “romanticisation” of Islamic terrorism as a resistance movement is reviving its ability to influence people in the UK and elsewhere, one source said.
