Kevin McKay, a school bus driver from Paradise, California, is the subject of a new Hollywood film, The Lost Bus , which tells the story of his heroic actions during the 2018 Camp Fire, when he saved 22 children from Ponderosa Elementary School.

McKay recalled the day the fire broke out, describing it as “just kind of fire grenades being dropped all over town at the same moment.” He snapped a photo of the towering smoke during his morning route, capturing the chaos of the situation. The film portrays the call McKay answered to evacuate the children in the fire’s path, with Matthew McConaughey playing McKay.
