The Pakistani government on Saturday wilted under pressure as it signed an agreement with protesters to end the demonstrations in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) that raged for five days and left 12 people dead and hundreds injured. Even though the Shehbaz Sharif-led government succumbed to pressure, it called the deal "a victory for peace", a face-saving gesture.
The territory witnessed one of its biggest protests in recent years, when talks collapsed between officials and leaders of the Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JKJAAC), a representative body of protesters, on September 29.
The agreement includes compensation for those killed in the protests, registering cases of terrorism for incidents of vandalism, setting up of educational boards for Muzaffarabad and Poonch div
