MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) -On this day, October 4, 1851 Madison’s first Presbyterian Church was organized, the Christ Presbyterian Church.
The church was located only a block off of the Capitol Square, and only had six original members.
At the time, the church could fit at least one-third more attendees than other churches in Madison, according to the Wisconsin State Journal.
The church is now on East Gorham Street and is over 170-years old.
In 1951, it was considered the largest Presbyterian Congregation, according to the Capital Times.
According to online data, the church had almost 400 members last year.
