BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - Law enforcement is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred shortly after 3:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4.

According to Birmingham Police, North Precinct officers were dispatched to the 400 Block of 2nd Avenue North at the Playhouse II Birmingham on reports of two people arguing.

Police say that officers intervened in the argument when they realized one of the people in the argument had a gun.

According to officers, the person with the gun was told to put their gun down, however, when they refused shots were fired.

Officer De’Rell Freeman confirmed that this is an active investigation which has been turned over to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) but there is no threat to the community.
