The Seattle Mariners and Detroit Tigers kick off their Division Series tonight with very different storylines. Seattle is back in the postseason after winning 90 games and taking the AL West. Detroit, on the other hand, fought its way through the Wild Card round after finishing 87-75 and upsetting Cleveland. Now both teams meet with a spot in the ALCS on the line, and Game 1 will set the tone in a best-of-five battle.

Seattle’s winning formula was built on pitching depth and Cal Raleigh’s insane hitting. The AL-MVP candidate, Raleigh, carried much of the offense, while the rotation stayed consistent down the stretch. Meanwhile, the Tigers leaned on their young core and strong pitching to reach the postseason for the first time in years.
