I n a landmark move to preserve cultural heritage and support traditional festivities, the Odisha government has approved a financial grant of ₹7.14 crore for the state’s Durga pandals. Announced for the first time this year under the directives of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, the aid will benefit 1,085 pandals across the state, categorised based on their historical significance and age.

The decision, revealed in a press note from the Department of Odia Language, Literature & Culture, aims to empower organisers of these iconic Durga Puja installations, ensuring vibrant celebrations amid rising costs.

The pandals have been divided into three categories to prioritise heritage sites while extending support to community efforts.
