In August 2020, President Trump issued an executive order to address the national security threat of TikTok. Then Congress passed the “TikTok ban” law with overwhelming bipartisan veto-proof margins in both houses, President Biden signed it, and the Supreme Court upheld it in a 9-0 decision.
This would appear to be a rare case of all three branches of government and both political parties working together in the national interest. The law took effect in January 2025 and since then, Trump has used unconstitutional but unchallenged (by Congress or the courts) executive orders to ignore it. Why? Maybe because he wants TikTok sold to a few patriotic billionaires willing to give his Department of Justice unhindered access to user data, and working out equitable investor compens
