New Delhi: Shubman Gill was named as the new skipper of India’s ODI team as the BCCI announced the squad for the Australia tour on Saturday. While Gill was named as the captain, Shreyas Iyer was picked as his deputy for the high-octane white-ball series. The BCCI announced India’s squad for the ODIs and T20Is with veterans Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli as part of the 50-over setup.
Gill , who is already the Test skipper of the side, said that his ultimate goal will be to win the ODI World Cup 2027 in South Africa. The 25-year-old said that they have about 20 ODI matches left to play till the ODI World Cup two years later which will give them enough practicing opportunities before the marquee event.
