A Covington woman has been arrested in connection with the fatal crash that killed an 8-year-old girl last month .

Louisiana State Police arrested Candace L. Leblanc, 39, saying toxicology tests showed she had drugs in her system when the Toyota Camry she was driving went off Hurd Road in Bush on the morning of Sept. 16.

Jewel Leger of Covington was unrestrained in the passenger seat and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Leblanc was booked into the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Facility on charges of vehicular homicide, no child restraints, possession of alcoholic beverages in a motor vehicle, careless operation and driving without a license.
