A head-on crash into a tree left one seriously person injured in Norwalk early Saturday morning.

Firefighters were called to the center grass median on the Route 7 connector between exits 2 and 1 around 5:15 a.m. It was originally reported from state police that there was one person trapped within the vehicle.

When the first emergency crews arrived, they said they found a single car crashed head-on into a tree in the median.

Firefighters used tools to extricate the driver before transporting them to Norwalk Hospital.

The driver's injuries are described as serious.

The crash remains under investigation.
