Pakistan and Turkey have voiced their support for Hamas’ response to US President Donald Trump’s 20-point Gaza peace plan, saying that the militant group’s partial acceptance of the proposal would offer an opportunity to secure an immediate ceasefire.
Islamabad, which earlier disowned Trump’s proposal, saying that the document was “not ours" and that “changes have been made to our draft," originally proposed by Muslim-majority nations, welcomed Hamas’ move.
In a statement, Islamabad said, “The deal would end the bloodshed of innocent Palestinians in Gaza, release of hostages and Palestinian prisoners, ensure unhindered humanitarian assistance, and pave the way for a credible political process toward lasting peace."
It also called on Israel to immediately cease bombings on Gaza.
