GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - Alachua County Sheriff’s deputies say they responded to a call of alleged battery at the Gainesville Supermarket Thursday night.

Upon arrival, they talked with the alleged victim, who said he was struck by Juan Francisco Martinez Reyes,43, after the two had argued over a stolen flashlight.

The victim had visible bruises on the right side of the face consistent with being punched.

Martinez Reyes was found by deputies nearly half a mile away outside Gainesville Wine and Spirits.

After being read his miranda rights, deputies say Martinez Reyes stated that he was in a verbal argument with the victim after he accused Martinez Reyes of stealing his flashlight.
