WATERLOO, Iowa (KCRG) - Dozens of people gathered in Waterloo Saturday morning to escort unclaimed remains of an Iowa Veteran to the Veterans Cemetery in Central Iowa. The ride was hosted by The Final Salute.

“We are honoring a Veteran who does not have any family, which means everyone that will be here today, will become his family,” Locke Funeral Services Funeral Director Paul Smith said.

People brought their motorcycles, antique cars, and hot rods to bring Patrick L. Picker home. He was born on December 23, 1916 and died February 10, 2004.

Picker served in the Army during World War II, but when he passed away, no one claimed his cremated remains.
