Star shortstop Bo Bichette was left off the Blue Jays ’ roster for the American League Division Series, and by the sounds of it he was never close to making the cut.

Bichette still hasn’t resumed running or hitting off live pitching since he sprained his left knee during a game at Yankee Stadium on Sept. 6. Throughout much of this week, the Jays left the door open for Bichette to return this weekend against the New York Yankees, but that appears to have been little more than a smokescreen.

The 27-year-old is a pending free agent who spent most of this year as the clean-up hitter behind Vladimir Guerrero Jr. His future with the team is now very much in doubt after he led the Jays with a .311 average and 62 extra-base hits.
