News out of Texas

Two children were killed and two are in critical condition after a shooting in Texas on the morning of Oct. 4, authorities said.

The shooting happened near Angleton, Texas, which is about 45 miles outside Houston, according to the Brazoria County Sheriff's Office. Two children, ages 13 and 4, were killed. An 8-year-old and a 9-year-old were taken by air to hospitals and are in critical condition, the sheriff's office said.

Authorities said they have detained "all individuals believed to be involved" and there is no ongoing threat to the community. They did not give further details about the circumstances surrounding the shooting or where exactly it took place. The sheriff's office didn't say how many people were taken into custody or disclose their relationships to the victims.

"While details are still developing, the loss of two children in such a manner is a tragedy. Our thoughts are with the family and everyone affected as we continue to learn more about this heartbreaking situation," the sheriff's office said.

Montgomery County Sheriff Wesley Doolittle said some of his county's deputies helped Brazoria County by providing "support at a related residence located here in Montgomery County."
