NORMAN — Oklahoma wide receiver Keontez Lewis was carted off Owen Field on Saturday afternoon following a scary collision with a brick wall.
In the first quarter of OU’s game against Kent State, quarterback Michael Hawkins Jr. took a deep shot for Lewis but sailed the throw past the end zone.
Lewis caught the pass but immediately crashed back and head first into an unpadded area of the brick wall in the north end of Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.
The game stopped and Lewis was down for several minutes while trainers tended to him. They placed him on a backboard stretcher and carted him off the field.
The entire OU team huddled up while Lewis was being tended to. Defensive ends coach Miguel Chavis led a team prayer for Lewis.
