Portland police on Friday said they arrested the driver who struck and injured a traffic control worker on Interstate-84.

The driver — identified by police as 20-year-old Gabriel A. Dorton — was charged with assault in the second degree, assault in the third degree, reckless driving and three counts of reckless endangerment of highway workers.

On Oct. 2, Dorton struck a pedestrian on westbound I-84 at Northeast 148th Avenue a little before 9 p.m. Police identified the pedestrian as a traffic management contract employee. Dorton then crashed into a barrier and stopped.

The worker was transported to the hospital by ambulance with injuries that are life-threatening. The patient’s prognosis is unknown. Dorton was not injured.
