The government shutdown is in effect due to a stalemate in Congress over federal funding.
A main sticking point for some lawmakers is the premium tax credits for health benefits under the Affordable Care Act set to expire at the end of the year.
"People who get their coverage through the health insurance marketplaces are going to be logging on in the next few weeks to see how much they're going to pay next year and they, quite frankly, are going to be experiencing a lot of sticker shock because of the large increases," stated Matt McGough, a policy analyst with research organization KFF.
