Several witnesses have been identified in the shooting death of a 62-year-old man in Kankakee, police said Saturday.

Authorities said at approximately 10:07 p.m. on Friday, officers with the Kankakee Police Department responded to North Evergreen Avenue near East Oak Street regarding multiple gunshots that had been fired.

When officers arrived, they encountered a 62-year-old man who had been shot, lying by the curb. Paramedics responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

In the hours following the shooting, police identified several witnesses, who have provided statements to investigators, authorities stated.

The investigation remained ongoing as of Saturday afternoon.
