SOUTH BEND – Notre Dame did not play particularly well against Boise State.

The No. 21 Irish committed 11 penalties for 112 yards, got stuffed on fourth and goal at the 1-yard line, missed a wide-open touchdown later in the same half and had an extra point blocked.

All of those mistakes and miscues kept visiting Boise State in the game, but they were not nearly enough to get the Broncos over the top as Notre Dame turned in a closer-than-it-should-have-been 28-7 victory at Notre Dame Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The victory was the third in a row for the Irish after an 0-2 start and kept alive their hopes for a College Football Playoff appearance. They still likely need to win their final seven games to have a chance at the playoff.
