ANAHEIM, Calif. (KABC) -- Newly released body camera video shows police fatally shooting a man who authorities said brandished a shovel in a confrontation last month near an Anaheim elementary school.

According to Anaheim police, on Sept. 15 an officer responded to the intersection of Holly Street and Falmouth Avenue around 12:45 p.m. in response to a call about a suspicious person. The caller said a man in the area was acting suspiciously and possibly under the influence of drugs, carrying a brick and a shovel.

When the officer arrived and encountered the man, the officer fired shots, hitting the suspect, according to the police department. The officer rendered first aid, and the man was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead approximately 30 minutes later.
