HOLCOMB, Kan. (KSNW) — A young woman was hospitalized Friday after she was hit by a car.

It happened around 7 p.m. at the intersection of Main Street and Jones Avenue, the Holcomb Police Department said.

According to police, the 19-year-old was crossing Jones when she was hit by a Honda Pilot driven by a 17-year-old boy from Garden City.

“The driver reported that the sun was in his eyes and he was unable to see the pedestrian,” Holcomb Police said in a news release.

Police noted that the pedestrian was in the crosswalk, “but failed to activate the flashing crossing lights available at the crossing.”

The young woman was transported to a hospital with suspected serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
