DORAFVILLE, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Nearly a thousand people showed up Saturday morning at Assembly Studios for the National Alliance on Mental Illness’ (NAMI) annual fundraising walk.

“More people are talking about mental health, but we need more people to do something,” said NAMI volunteer and walker Monique Bell.

The event was partially sponsored by Atlanta News First and emceed by evening anchor Blair Miller .

“At NAMI, we call it being loud and proud about mental health,” NAMI Georgia Executive Director Kim Jones said.

The goal for all was to speak up and to smile, even in the face of tragedy. Some teams walked with signs remembering loved ones who succumbed to mental health issues.
