BOONE, N.C. — An Oregon State football season that had much promise in August is inching closer to one of its worst in several decades.
The Beavers fell to 0-6 for the first time since 1991 after a slow start Saturday was costly in a 27-23 loss to Appalachian State at Kidd Brewer Stadium.
Oregon State drove into Mountaineers territory three times in the fourth quarter, but the Beavers failed to score offensively as an interception, a stop on fourth down and another interception gave the ball back to Appalachian State each time.
A safety with 1:40 to play narrowed the Mountaineers’ 27-21 lead to four points and gave possession to the Beavers, who got a good return and drove inside the Appalachian State 30-yard line. But then quarterback Maalik Murphy took a sack, and Murphy’s pass on s
