Ferris State University has rejected a proposal from the Mecosta County Board of Commissioners to coordinate an effort to erect a Charlie Kirk statue on its Big Rapids campus.

University President Dr. Bill Pink, in a letter to County Board Chair Chris Zimmerman, expressed sympathies regarding Kirk’s death but noted that the university has a longstanding policy limiting statues on campus to individuals who have made significant, direct contributions to Ferris State University itself, according to The Pioneer newspaper.

“At present, the only statue on our grounds is of our founder, Woodbridge N. Ferris, whose vision and leadership made the university possible,” he wrote.
