PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) -- Peoria firefighters are reminding residents to stay safe during the current drought after they put out a brush fire.
At 4:43 p.m. on Oct. 4, Peoria Fire Department crews went to the 2800 block of West Reservoir Boulevard for reports of a brush fire in the woods, said Battalion Chief Rick Waldron.
Arriving crews found a large fire in the woods, just off the sidewalk on the north side of the street. The fire was spreading towards the residential area behind it.
Waldron said firefighters had to cut an extensive amount of brush to contain the fire to roughly a half-acre area.
Due to quick action, crews were able to keep the fire from spreading to any property close by.
They remained on scene for over an hour, soaking the area involved as well as multiple areas that
