BUFFALO, N.Y. — Cyclists from both sides of the border came together for the CanAm Freedom Ride on Saturday.
Riders started in the morning at Freedom Park in Buffalo, then crossed the Peace Bridge into Fort Erie before returning during the afternoon. The event marked not only the longstanding friendship between the United States and Canada, but also the historical significance of the Underground Railroad in the region.
"Because of this region, where we are, the Underground Railroad, this is Freedom Park. This is where our ancestors came to cross to Canada to become free," George Johnson of the East Side Bike Club said.
